The European Open Source Academy and OSAwards.eu Consortium will be joining the UN Open Source Week, taking place between 16th to 20th of June, in New York City. At this cornerstone event of open source ecosystem, the Academy will be hosting a community-led session, titled "Open Source Skills in the AI Era- Perspectives from the European Open Source Academy". More details about the event are found below :
Session Description
There is an ongoing generational shift in the open source ecosystem, impacting both the software and hardware that billions of people depend on in their lives. At the same time, companies are shifting gears to keep pace with Open Source AI's rapid evolution, particularly as it upends the future of work. New skills and competencies are needed to position the Open Source ecosystem to adjust to and meet the needs of an AI-powered workforce, both to sustain existing technologies and to reap new opportunities for innovation.
What can the industry do and how can the Open Source community support them? How can higher education contribute within and beyond campus, and do the needs vary across borders and cultures? What is the role of government, and how can policymakers globally step in to help manage this transition? These questions and more will be discussed during a panel where an active audience is encouraged. Outputs will feed into the coming skill strategy and gap analysis, currently conducted under the European Open Source Academy.
