Ton Roosendaal

Ton Roosendaal (1960) is founder and CEO of the Blender organization and the original developer and designer of the Blender software since 1994. He is well known for pioneering content driven open source development. For that, he was awarded an honorary doctorate of the University of Leeds, in Creative Technology.


Blender is the popular open-source 3D modeling, animation, and rendering software used by artists, studios, and hobbyists worldwide. Roosendaal played a pivotal role in developing Blender and shaping its open-source development model. With over 20M downloads per year, Blender is being recognised by the industry as reliable production environment for games, series and feature film. Roosendaal currently oversees the general strategy and project targets at Blender.
